Black Sea coast
The cultural capital of the Bulgarian coast - cobbled old-town streets on a rocky peninsula.
Sozopol is one of the oldest and most romantic towns on the Black Sea - long considered the cultural capital of the Bulgarian coast. Built across two peninsulas, it's split into Old Sozopol, with wooden Revival-era houses and cobbled lanes, and New Sozopol, with hotels, taverns and a lively waterfront.
Around 30 km from Burgas, the town is famous for its wide sandy beaches divided between the historic north shore and the broader south beach. Painters, photographers and history lovers come for the layered presence of Thracian, Greek, Roman and Byzantine pasts visible in its streets and churches.
